KARA'S BIO

Kara’s goal as an artist is to embrace black culture through social issues and positive representation through her own artistic interpretations. During her time with YAYA (Young Aspirations/Young Artists) and later at Xavier University of Louisiana, her experience molded her into the artist she is today. It has also inspired her to become an arts educator as well. She’s currently teaching Visual Art at St. Katharine Drexel Prep, a historically black school for girls (8-12 grade). She continues looking for ways to nurture her own artistic practice throughout the New Orleans art community through Joan Mitchell Center, the Ogden Museum, and the Ana & Adeline Foundation (also incorporated through YAYA). Her main passion is working in the studio and her artistic discipline is creating portrait paintings. She mostly uses radiant warm colors and cool undertones to capture the essence of the subject matter. While also using textured mediums, such as molding paste or dried acrylic from my painting palette, She loves embracing the realistic qualities and depth within her pieces. She tends to create paintings between the size of 24 x 36 in to 45 x 60 in. in order for her audience to build a connection and closely analyze everything used within her pieces.
